PROPOSED NEW RESIDENCE
THE RIDGE ESTATE, CAPE TOWN

In designing this contemporary luxury residence on the moderate mountain slope in Tamboerskloof, our approach is centred on harmonizing the building with its dramatic natural surroundings while fostering a serene and sophisticated living environment. The structure utilizes cantilevered forms that float above the terrain to maximize breathtaking city views.

Creating connection to the surrounding area does not always mean looking out over expansive views. Private courtyards where we can get up close to indigenous plants and natural rock formations are also valuable vistas to be framed and celebrated.

A key design feature is wrapping the building around a central courtyard, serving as a light well to bring abundant natural light into the lower levels of the residence and enhance the overall living experience. The integration of this light well promotes a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor areas, ensuring that every corner of the home benefits from the mountain’s natural beauty.

The building's exterior sleek glass and steel facades are contrasted against a textured finishes palette of natural stone and concrete, striking a balance between modern aesthetics and environmental durability.

Strategic setbacks on the lateral boundaries introduce a green corridor, which filters light and adds an extra layer of privacy. This design element enhance privacy and create a sense of seclusion by integrating with surrounding lush landscaping, contributing to the property’s natural harmony and providing a serene backdrop.

The interior layout is designed to complement the connection to the landscape, with a muted pallet of colours, natural stone and timber. Open-plan spaces leading to expansive terraces and an infinity pool that blends effortlessly into the horizon.

Overall, this design approach celebrates modern luxury while responding to the natural beauty of the surroundings.
